Ten Year Old Lends a hand to Positively Pink, Commended by Amy Grant
Houston , TX - It is amazing where inspiration and strength can arise. Ten year old Niccolas Chudej learned that his grandfather had cancer this past March and 11 days later the youngster had to deal with the sudden loss of his beloved grandparent. A few months later the boy was faced with the possible loss of another special person in his life, his favorite teacher who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
It was also during this time that Niccolas learned about Positively Pink, a benefit for The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, and what the campaign does to raise money and awareness for cancer research. He did his homework and learned that Positively Pink was coming to Houston for a special event. Niccolas then contacted the creator of Positively Pink, Shauna Mosley and began corresponding with her. The young man was full of ideas to help raise awareness and money for cancer research but he finally narrowed them down to one: "Change Can Make A Difference."
Shauna asked Niccolas to create a proposal to submit to herself and the principal of his school. He did, and once approved, he (with the help of fellow classmate Aaron Hill) immediately started to organize a drive to collect change from his classmates at his school Hoffmann Lane Elementary, and from anyone else who would contribute. From asking for donations from friends, to broadcasting commercials during the school's morning announcements, Niccolas reached out to his community to ask for their help.
At the same time, plans were being made for a special Positively Pink event in Houston , TX at Katy Mills Mall. Singer Amy Grant, spokesperson for the campaign announced earlier in the year she would donate her Mazda Miata , a treasured gift from her management company, to be given away to raise money for Positively Pink. The Positively Pink kiosk and Miata made their way to Mills Malls all over the country, their last stop being Katy Mills Mall in Houston , TX .
At a private luncheon, Amy welcomed Niccolas to tell everyone his story and thank him for all that he has done for Positively Pink and The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. To this date, "Change Can Make A Difference" has raised a total of $1200, Niccolas ' goal amount, reached by asking each of the 600 students at Hoffman Elementary to bring in $2.00 in change.
Niccolas ' music teacher who has been diagnosed with breast cancer has been inspired by Amy Grant's music, and often wanted to be a superstar just like her. Life had other plans. She may not be touching millions with her music, but she is reaching kids like Niccolas Chudej , and his contribution to the fight against cancer proves he's her biggest fan.
