FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE GREAT TENNESSEE AIR SHOW 2005 TAKES FLIGHT IN
SMYRNA, TN MAY 7-8
Featuring The United States Air Force Thunderbirds
Presented By The Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority

NASHVILLE-April 6, 2005-The Great Tennessee Air Show 2005, a two-day aviation entertainment extravaganza takes flight May 7-8 at the Smyrna Airport in Smyrna, Tennessee. Attendees can expect two days of family oriented aerobatic performances with special appearances by the world-renowned U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds jet team. The Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority will tip its hat to all mothers this weekend by donating a portion of the proceeds to The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, a 501 c (3) nonprofit public charity.
The Great Tennessee Air Show 2005 marks the first air show in this market since 1999; the 2001 event was canceled following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. When the airport authority launched an extensive development and expansion project it chose to delay plans for hosting another air show. “The history of the Smyrna Air Show can be traced back to the early '70s,” notes John Black, executive director, Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority. "It's an extremely well-attended event. We're proud to host this event for Middle Tennessee and this year we're proud to showcase some of the many positive changes taking place as we continue on the path of a new master plan."
Gates open at 8:00am each day and flying begins at 11:00am. It is highly recommended that visitors arrive early. Danny Clisham will serve as Master of Ceremonies. In addition to the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, aerial and ground performances will include the U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagle Tactical Jet Demonstration; The X-Team and Masters of Disaster Aerial Stunt Show; Jim and Kyle Franklin - Jet-Powered Waco and Wing Walking; Jim LeRoy - Bulldog Aerobatics; Kent Shockley - Shockwave 300 mph Jet-Powered Semi-Truck; Bobby Younkin - One-of-a-kind Samson Biplane and the Twin Beechcraft; Swift Magic - Aerobatic Team; Rich's Incredible Pyro - Wall of Fire; and the Geico Skytypers. Other features include ground displays of aircraft and equipment from all four armed services and the Coast Guard, as well as displays by local police, firefighters and EMS providers. Visitors can experience the rumble in simulator rides, stop by the children's entertainment area, enjoy the offerings of various food vendors, or select a souvenir. The Air Show Network produces The Great Tennessee Air Show.
The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation's guiding principles rise from its namesake, Minnie Pearl, the stage name created by comedienne Sarah Cannon. The Foundation's executive director Patrick Clemens describes Cannon as "a compassionate cancer survivor who wanted a foundation that provided hope through cancer research, patient and family support services, and education. We're very pleased to be a part of The Great Tennessee Air Show."
